POLAR BEAR (Ursus maritimus)

Distribution: Arctic Region, Canada, USA (Alaska), Greenland, Norway (Svalbard), Russia

Habitat: Arctic ice and nearshore terrestrial habitats.

Diet: Almost strictly carnivorous: Seal, walrus, beluga, fish, reindeer, berries, vegetation and human garbage

General Behaviours: Mainly diurnal. Breeding season from March to June. Most active when prey is most abundant.

Threats: Reduction in habitat coverage.

Conservation Status: CITES Appendix II.
