Teddy was initially kept as a pet by a villager in the Pamol, Sapi Nangoh area. She was still a cub when she was sent to the Sapi Plantation Mini Zoo. Teddy lived in the mini zoo for several years until one day she fell ill. The plantation reported to the Sabah Wildlife Department about Teddy’s condition and she was immediately transferred to BSBCC. Teddy arrived on 29th December 2015. When Teddy first arrived, she was dehydrated. Her fore limbs were enlarged and hardened which showed signs of arthritis. Teddy was continually monitored by BSBCC’s bear care team for several days. However, her appetite and overall health condition deteriorated. She was no longer able to move on her own. Sepilok’s wildlife veterinarians with the support of the director of Sabah Wildlife Department had to take the hard decision to euthanize Teddy to end her suffering.

Teddy was euthanized on 7th January 2019. Her post mortem result suggested she had been suffering a long-term chronic nerve and muscles disease which had gradually deteriorated over time.

Rest in Peace Teddy..
