Visit from Preschool SK. Seri Manis, Sandakan

It all begins with an idea.

We would like to say thank you to Prasekolah SK Seri Manis, Sandakan for the visit today! The students were first briefed on the safety rules and Sun Bear information before to the bear observation platforms. They were happy to see the rescued bears around the forest enclosures.

We hope they had a great time here and gained some new knowledge about Sun Bears, while helping us to spread awareness by sharing experiences with their friends and family! Thanks again for visiting BSBCC, and hope to see you guys again!

EERace 26: Youths as Guardians of the Environment

It all begins with an idea.

We are having a great day today as we welcome the participants of the Environmental Education Race (Group M - EERACe26). Our education team prepared several tasks and activities for them to learn more about sun bears and BSBCC. It is amazing to see all of them giving their best to complete each task and having fun while at our Centre. We hope that they will be able to explain the significance of the BSBCC in protecting the sun bears to other teams during their final presentation. Good luck, Group M!

Heart of Borneo (HoB) Roadshow at Pinangah Zone, Sabah.

It all begins with an idea.

Yesterday on the 15th of July 2023, we participated in the Heart of Borneo (HoB) Roadshow organised by the Rainforest Discovery Centre (RDC) of Sabah Forestry Department to Pinangah Zone, Sabah. The event was attended by around 200 members of 15 villages in the Pinangah Zone. The zone, surrounded by forest reserves was definitely a good target for environmental and wildlife education programs.

For BSBCC, this event provided an excellent opportunity to engage the community members as the event itself involved 15 villages, reaching multiple targets in one single event. We are very grateful for this invitation which was good cooperation between the members of Sabah Environmental Education Network (SEEN) and yielded the maximum effect on the communities in the area. Thanks, Sabah Forestry Department for the invitation!

Itam and Kipaku Nest Building

It all begins with an idea.

Spotted! A rare occasion of Itam and Kipaku building a nest together in their forest enclosure. Sun bears are arboreal and in the wild make nests on trees and sleep on these tree nests like orangutans. These nests usually consist of piles of tree branches and twigs that are band over from the surrounding, centered at a tree fork that is close to the tree trunk.
As they get older they start to learn new things from each other. Watch Itam and Kipaku work together!

Big thanks Hasanah Foundation and Sime Darby Foundation for being highly supportive of BSBCC's mission to rehabilitate bears like Itam and Kipaku.
