マレーグマの研究

マレーグマは世界のクマの中で最も研究が遅れている種です。種の保全には今後の研究が鍵になると信じています。
地理的な問題、個体数の少なさ、警戒心の強さがマレーグマの研究を困難にします。マレーグマの生息地が発展途上国にあり、保全・研究の優先順位が国家的に低いことも研究が遅れている理由の一つです。
BSBCCは飼育マレーグマを間近で、かつ自然生息地の環境の中で調査できる環境を整えています。そのため飼育下マレーグマの研究は進み、野生での研究の準備を行うこともできます。

設立者とCEOであるウォン博士の研究者はBSBCCの設立に直結しています。ウォン博士は1998年に世界初の野生マレーグマの生態的研究をボルネオ島サバ州の熱帯雨林で行ました。以来、博士はマレーグマの研究と保全に尽力し、自身の研究からわかったことをマレーグマの保全に役立てています。
