RESCUE BEAR 46
KITUD
AGE : 7 Years Old
SEX : Female
MEANING OF NAME: Name was given to her by her previous owner. Kitud means “stunted” in the Dusun language due to her small sized body compared to her playmate, Boboi, who is the same age.
HISTORY: Kitud originally was from Mengapoh village, Ranau distrct, Sabah. She was kept with another male, juvenile sun bear called “Boboi”. Both of them were handed over to the Sabah Wildlife Department in Singgaron village, Ranau district and arrived at BSBCC on October 30th, 2015. They had been kept together in a cage and were fed with milk, rice and fish. Kitud was a healthy sun bear juvenile when she first came in. She weighed 12.1kg.
PERSONALITY: In May 2016, we introduced Kitud to the other sub–adult bears and were pleased to see her get along with all the bears. Kitud is a very sweet natured girl and has a leadership character. Finally on July 15th 2016, Kitud and her friends (Boboi and Tan-Tan) took their first steps on the forest floor. Kitud enjoys climbing and exploring in the canopy. Kitud has a noticeably obvious appearance. She has brown coloured ears, a tiny body size, and a slim U-shaped chest mark. She likes to stay up high and enjoys playing with the tree branches or tearing the tree bark. Among all the fruits, she loves coconut the most. She is learning and developing all the skills pertinent to survival in the wild.
We are pleased to share that Kitud were released into the core area of Tabin Wildlife Reverse, in Lahad Datu, Sabah on the 14th of April, 2019 together with his friend (Boboi and Tan-Tan). After the four years of rehabilitation process at the BSBCC, now a new adventure and new chapter of their lives are just beginning. Once the door opened, Tan Tan and Boboi ran straight to the forest. On the other hand, Kitud was exploring and curious with her new environment. After few minutes, all of them disappeared in front of our eyes, into the forest!
