A visit from SK. Rancangan Suan Lamba to BSBCC today. There are 34 students with their teacher involved in this visit. The students were given presentation on sun bear by Ms. Risnayati. Before they went to the observation platform to see the sun bears roaming in the forest enclosure, they were given mini tasks to test their understanding on sun bear from different topics about sun bear. This activity encourages and develops creativity in the students as well as to increase the understanding on sun bear. We hope that students and their teachers enjoyed their time at BSBCC learning about sun bears and the environment.

Today BSBCC's Education Team organized Sandakan Wildlife Conservation Awareness and Education Programme (Series 1) 2018 for Sandakan district together with our partners from HUTAN - Kinabatangan Orang Utan Conservation Programme (KOCP), REEF guardian, Wildlife Rescue Unit and Sandakan Borneo Bird Club. Today the school we visited was SK Batu Putih. Various activities were held during this programme such as talks, games, video show and colouring activity. Each participating organization also set up educational booth for the students and teachers to visit. Thank you to our partners from different organization for joining us to be part of the programme and we are looking forward to more programmes in the future and lastly, huge thanks to the teachers and pupils of Sekolah Kebangsaan Batu Putih for their support and participation. In the same evening our BSBCC education team has a session with the school children of Sandakan Vision School, where the children learnt about sun bear's diet. They got to learn and understand about the type of food that sun bears eat and apply the knowledge into the activity done - where they draw what type of food that the sun bears eat. The children also get to share their findings with their friends during the group discussion. It was a fun session and the BSBCC team will be visiting the school again in two weeks. Looking forward to meet these kids again! A visit from Pusat Tuisyen Cerdik Minda visited BSBCC today. There are 80 students with their teacher involved in this visit. The students were given presentation on sun bear by Ms. Gloria. Before they went to the observation platform to see the sun bears roaming in the forest enclosure, they were given a task to test their understanding on sun bear from different topics about sun bear. This activity encourage creativity in a child as well as to increase their understanding on sun bear. The children together with their teachers enjoyed their time at our Centre learning about sun bears and the environment.
SK Sungai Nangka PreschoolA school visit from SK Sungai Nangka Preschool, Beluran visited BSBCC on November 18th, 2017. The school children came together with their teachers and parents. They were given a short introduction on sun bears with our sun bear mascot and later they were brought to the observation platforms to see the bears roaming in the forest enclosure. The children, together with their parents and teachers, enjoyed their time at our Centre learning about sun bears and the environment. We were glad to share our knowledge on Sun Bears with them. We believe that environmental education can help in the efforts to save Sun Bears and their habitat for generations to come. Tadika Ming ChungA group of kindergarten children from nearby Tadika Ming Chung visited BSBCC on November 4th, 2017. The visit was guided by BSBCC staff to view sun bears in the forest enclosure. The kids were lucky enough to be able to spot a Crested serpent eagle and an Orangutan, as well as sun bears. On November 10th, 2017, the BSBCC team once again were glad to host another visit from SALY-B participants of Kg. Bakong-Bakong SALY-B or Sustainable Alternative Livelihoods for Youths in Sabah, an initiative by Forever Sabah and Raleigh Borneo, which develops young people's skills, knowledge and network to enable them to manage their environment, develop green enterprises, and protect valuable biodiversity in Sabah. Our Education Officer, Risnayati showed them around the Centre and gave them a brief introduction on sun bears and BSBCC.
A school visit from SJK (c) Pei Ying, Sandakan visited BSBCC today, 7th Oct 2017. The school children came together with their teachers and parents. They were given an introduction on sun bears and later they were brought to the observation platforms to see the bears roaming in the forest enclosure. The children together with their parents and teachers enjoyed their time at our Centre learning about sun bears and the environment. We were glad to share our knowledge on Sun Bears to them. Hopefully the children can gain new knowledge about sun bear and help us spread the awareness to their friends and family.
Today, the BSBCC were glad to welcome group visits from 2 different schools. The first school is SK Mostyn, Kunak which came early in the morning. This time, the students was given presentation about Sun Bear by our Environmental Education Officer, after the presentation they were required to answer sets of questions in the Sun Bear Explorer Book. They obtained the answers from the signboards along the boardwalk. Through this activity, the students were encouraged to make critical thinking and were able to understand better about sun bears and its environment. At the end of the activity, the answers were discussed together. At 11 am nearly afternoon, another group from SK Paris 3, Kinabatangan came to visit our centre. Due to limited time, they didn't do the Sun Bear Explorer activity but instead they were given short briefings and brought for tour at the observation platforms. The BSBCC are very happy to see more young people learning about the Mother Nature. Thank you for visiting our Centre! A school group from SK Sungai Tiram, Sandakan visited BSBCC on the 21st September 2017. During their visit, we assigned the students to answer a set of questions about sun bears in the Sun Bear Explorer Book and on the the same time they enjoyed to watch the sun bears activities in the forest enclosure. Through this activity, they were able to learn and understand better about sun bears! Thank you for visiting our Centre!

This time, the students were required to answer sets of questions in the Sun Bear Explorer Book. They obtained the answers from the signboards along the boardwalk. At the end of the activity, the answers were discussed together. At 2pm in the afternoon, another group from SMK Kemabong, Tenom came to visit our centre. Due to limited time, they didn't do the Sun Bear Explorer activity but instead they were given short briefings and brought for tour at the observation platforms. BSBCC are very happy to see more young people learning about the Mother Nature.
Yesterday, on the 27th July 2017, BSBCC was invited to do awareness programme in Sandakan Baptist Church Kindergarten and today the school group came to visit our centre. The school children were accompanied by their teacher and parents. BSBCC’s Education Team gave a brief introduction and safety precautions before they were brought to the observation platform. After observing the bears in the forest enclosure, the school group engaged with the activity, bear origami. One of our aims in BSBCC is to raise awareness among the public about sun bears. We were glad to share our knowledge on sun bears to them and they really enjoyed learning! Thanks to teachers and parents for their efforts and time to take the school children to visit to our centre and learn about sun bears.
A total of 46 preschool children of Tadika Tai Tong, Sandakan and 24 preschool teachers and parents visited BSBCC today (25th July 2017). Our staff conducted a brief introduction on sun bears to the group by using our sun bear mascot. After that, the children were brought along with their teachers and parents to the observation platforms to see the bears roaming in the forest enclosure. We are happy to all of them enjoy their time learning about sun bears and its environment. We believe that environmental education can help in the efforts to save sun bears and their habitat for generations to come. |
