Last week, I was attending the 4th Meeting of the Asian Society of Zoo and Wildlife Medicine (31 July – 1 August 2010) in Kuala Lumpur.
I am honored to be given the opportunity to represent Wong to give a presentation on the current status of sun bear in Malaysia and the future roles of Bornean Sun Bear Conservation Centre during the Bear Session. I feel glad to be able to share our story and experience with the audience. Their feed back and questions are very important and useful for me. They had motivated me to improve myself and continue to learn more about sun bear.
The bear session was focused on the Current Status and Future Perspectives for Conservation of the Sun bear in Malaysia – Viewpoint from Ecology, Reproduction and Veterinary Medicine. There were another two presenters in the session who were Dr. Manabu Onuma (National Institute for Environmental Studies) and Dr. Jen O’Dwyer (Animals Asia Foundation China Bear Rescue Centre). It was so beneficial to chat with both speakers after the session. Apart from that, I also met the vet and vet nurse from Free the Bear from Vietnam and Cambodia.
Not to forget to thank the organizing committee, coordinators especially Dr Toshio Tsubota and Dr Koji Yamazaki for holding such a meaningful session for bear researchers and those who care for sun bears.
