Tree nests protect them from predators as well as serve as to be comfortable, safe places to sleep. This is one of the vital skills that their mothers would have taught them in the wild… Check out how one of our rescued adult female sun bear, Damai builds her comfy nest on tree! Sun bears are well adapted to arboreal living. In the wild, they spend a lot of their time foraging, exploring, building nests and sleeping on the forest canopy. Most of our rescued sun bears love climbing high in trees and Wawa is no exception. She greatly enjoys regular outings to the forest and being a wild bear! We are impressed by her agility and balance! Sun bear, the world smallest bear, is also the most arboreal bear. But our rescued sun bears have been kept in captivity for long periods which cause them do not know the world beyond the cage bars and loss their survival skills that they need to learn in the wild. At BSBCC, they learned to climb trees, forage for food, make a nest, how to stay safe from predators and develop all the behavior they need to survive in the wild. A climbing tree is an amazing and extraordinary achievement for rescued sun bears. You can feel how wild and special the sun bears can be! Sun bear belongs to the forest.
