Overwhelmed with emotions and inspired, she depicted her observations in paintings. Adopting a representational style, she lays paints in multilayers to create depth enhancing the paint quality and building up surfaces. LIGHT, SHADOW, WATER AND REFLECTION.
Artist’s statement by Jane Tan
In this busy modern world, many people are too busy to enjoy the beauty of Mother Nature. For artists, It is important to be observant of surroundings. The lighting, shadow, colour, wind direction, reflection and other factors must be diligently observed and appreciated when creating artworks. Contrast of light and shadow makes an image brighter and creates the form in three dimensional space. It makes a painting more realistically defined, hence more enchanting. Light shines on water to unveil crystal light glitterings. The direction of sea waves moves to show where the wind comes from. Even the reflection on a still water surface is a delighted beauty that can calm our hearts. I am indeed very lucky to have the opportunity to travel to different countries and visit many art galleries. It enables me to see the different beauty of sunlight and shadow under a clear blue sky and a sky with thick rain clouds, as well as to see the beauty of reflection on the surface after rain. The beauty of Mother Nature enlightens my heart. In short, my exhibition entitled “Light, Shadow, Water and Reflection” depicts the exquisite aesthetic of Mother Nature on canvases.
